Regional Politics
A push out in the senate to the Constructivists 7/13/18 at 8:56 pm
After the elections, things looked grim for the Activists. The party, eloquently named “The Concrete Party” by former CM The Silver Eagles is the largest left wing orientated party in the region. It is also agreed upon in the NWA that the Activists are the most successful party, with 5 Prime Minister Administrations to date and countless other minor positions. Usually a dominator in the polls, the Activists took an unfair blow in these current elections.
To the surprise of everyone, Bergonnia had won Prime Minister with unmatched support. This is the first time that a third party candidate has assumed the powers of PM in modern NWA history. A true victory for the Liberal Democrats, but for the Activists the race ended soon. The Activist Prime Minister candidate dropped out in the first phase of the race. Constructivist Candidate Somner was blown out of the water by Bergonnia, to the rejoice of many.
However, despite the flop for the elections, the Activists have forced a major blow on the Constructivist party in the senate. Previously, the Activists and Constructivist lead a coalition in the senate with the Libdems, DSP (now BLOC) and RFP in the minority. Today the tables have changed however. The Activists, with the major contributions of the Liberal Democrats and Democratic Bloc have formed a super coalition. This is the first time a three party coalition majority has ever been made. When asked the leadership of these parties, they say it is to punish the Constructivists for their “Toxic and Bad behavior”. We saw this as this election was a particularly dirty one, some even have claimed that it has been one of the rudes elections to date.
This new super coalition caught the Constructivists with their pants down, they thought that this election was a success however in the field of Legislation it proves otherwise. We asked Lib Dem Deputy Chairman Josephtan what he thought about the coalition and he said: “It was an opportunity for the three parties to form this coalition, and we took it. And if the cons had a similar opportunity they would take it without a second thought.” and when he asked about the Con’s recent behavior he said “I wouldn't really call it toxic, they just put a lot of effort and wanting to win.” When we asked Social Bloc party leader Pink Sheep about the 3 party coalition he said “I think in the early days, but I am unsure because for a while coalitions were just a one time mention and they existed, but not as of a big deal now and since a balance before this election between RFP/SEP existed the LIB dems were the only thing that mattered it was them that caused the Con/Activist one”
He thank both Pinksheep and Josephtan for their statements. It’ll be interesting to see how the Constructivits react to this coalition and shut out from the majority.

An exclusive interview with Chancellor Nydaymos 6/5/2018 at 8:03 pm
Today, the Western Atlantic Times, had the absolute honor and privilege to interview Activist Prime Minister Candidate Chancellor Nydaymos over discord. The interview started with the Author asking:
(Author) So, to begin, how are you doing today?
(Nydaymos) I'm doing great, thank you so much for asking. Enjoying campaigning and election season
(Author) That's great to hear. As it is election season, the political debates are impossible to avoid, and we've been seeing them frequently here on discord and in the RMB. Nearly all of these debates have been between you and Somner, and Somner's supporters. What is your personal take on Somner and his running mate Ormantum?
(Nydaymos) First of all, let me state that I have great respect for the Constructivist Party. As Activist Senate Leader and Senate Chancellor, I've worked extensively with them over the past 6 months. I've an excellent relationship with Sen. Deputy Chancellor Calponia, who I admire greatly, and Sen. Trade Federations, who along former Chancellor Black Sheep, is an inspiration/role model for me. Having said that, the Constructivist PM/DPM ticket has been extremely toxic and hypocritical. Their strategy as of late has been call out the Activists when they're pursuing a successful strategy, cause extended drama, and then literally copy that strategy in a slightly different form. It's really disheartening, because our camp has been focusing extensively on the issues that matter -- upping our recruitment efforts, the establishment of a regional military, the introduction of a WA authorship program, the establishment of an NWA civil service -- all things that are vital to our region. These are issues that the whole region -- Constructivists, Activists, Lib Dems, RFPers, and Blocs -- cares about. We've been focused on hearing the NWA wide population and what it has to say. That's how a campaign should function. And that's what we'll keep doing, and we are confident -- I am confident -- that our region will vote down toxicity, hypocrisy, and hatred come election day.
(Author) That is quite a strong statement. Senators from all the parties have noted the Constructivist Party's recent "Toxicity", and it's rumored that the the coalition in the senate is going to be closed because of the relations between the Constructivists and the Activists. If you could give your opinion, what do you believe has caused this sudden rise of Toxicity, and if possible, who is the blame for it?
(Nydaymos) I've often thought about this question, and quite honestly, I think it comes down to being the result of political desperation. It's easier in the short run to score political points by attacking other people and spewing toxicity -- sometimes unfoundedly, sometimes over the most trivial of reasons, sometimes over utter lies. We see this strategy employed with real life politics all over the world. The thing about this strategy, though, is that it doesn't last. Our region is seeing what's happening, and I've already talked to a number of individuals who have told me that they're fed up with it. A number of CONs have approached me saying, look, we're part of that party, we'll stay as part of that party, but we won't support that ticket and what it stands for. Personally, that gives me optimism in knowing that our region won't be silent when our values are threatened.
(Author) This certainly is interesting, because knowing Somner for over a year now I remember tactics that are near clones to this back in the days of Westphalia. Do you believe that Senator Somner and Senator Ormantum have any redeeming qualities to head our government?
(Nydaymos) Look, I respect Sen. Somner and Sen. Ormantum as individuals. I respect their drive and ambition. But what I don't appreciate and condone is once again the negativity -- the toxicity, hypocrisy, and pointless hate -- that they exhibit as part of their campaign strategy. I think when you exhibit something like that, it ultimately disqualifies any redeeming qualities you may have. Here's why: those qualities and strategies are often not dropped off at the doormat of elected office. If elected on those tactics, you'll just transition and apply them into your daily life as an elected official.
(Author) To go along with this theme, what do you believe your biggest qualities for leadership is? Also, what do you believe your biggest flaws for leadership is?
(Nydaymos) Gotta love those questions, In all honesty, I would say that my biggest qualifying qualities for leadership are my experience, activity, and ability to establish a rapport with the NWA wide population. As you know, from my first day in the region, I've been thoroughly involved in our government and community. For me, it has literally been a continuous non-stop journey, and while it does get tiring at times, the experiences I've had the opportunity of going through and the individuals I've had the honor of meeting and working with in my time as Senator, Chancellor, and Discord Moderator have made it all worthwhile. That's what I promise to deliver as PM. We'll hit the ground running from day one and we won't stop till 6 months later. To add to that, I'm a middle ground individual. I've worked with the CONs, Lib Dems, RFPers, and that's what I'll continue to do as PM. As I said in the #YourCampaign Listening Tour, your input and feedback matters no matter what stripe you identify with, and that's never going to change. As far as flaws go, I would say I have two main ones. First of all, as you could already observe with this interview, I have a, well, ummm, hmmm, a tendency we shall call it, to write walls of text. I love being detailed and I take it as a personal duty to elaborate, but thankfully, I've been getting better with that. My second second flaw is the fact that I sometimes let drama get to me, and I'm not the only one who has experienced this. To anyone who goes through that, it's important to always realize that first and foremost this is a game and that when you're hit unfairly, you keep your head high, you fight head on, and you continue to work towards your goals.
(Author) That is quite an inspiring way to think. Do you have an opinion on Somner's prolonged inactivity and only recent activity in the Discord and RMB?
(Nydaymos) I think Sen. Somner's record speaks for itself quite frankly. I will note in contrast, though, that I've been active and involved in our region from the moment I arrived here, and that for me, the NWA has always been and will always be my number one priority
(Author) That's very true as well. As Prime Minister, what do you think your first action will be?
(Nydaymos) I'll be contacting each party leader asking them to send me a representative from their caucus to be part of my kitchen cabinet. Look, if elected, I don't want to govern 50%, or 55%, or 60% of the NWA. I want to bring the whole region together. We have so many ambitious programs planned and to effectively roll those out, we need the whole region to come together. There's no way of doing that better than by bringing together a circle of advisors that represents every stripe in the NWA. Once that's done, we'll hit the ground running across all areas. We have stamp recruitment and manual recruitment programs to set up. We need to hold an inaugural regional event. We need to establish the NWA Civil Service in order to bolster the strength of ministries and offer citizens another mode of participation. These are things that we'll definitely tackle within the first 10 days.
(Author) I noticed how you mentioned you don't want to specially govern 50, 55, or 60 percent of the region. As Prime Minister, will you be following a doctrine like Riost where you leave the ministers alone, or will you push and govern them to the max? What do you expect your main competitor Somner to do?
(Nydaymos) I was talking to Senator O-Broki about this the other day. As I explained at the time, I want to give each government ministry a fair amount of autonomy to carry out its minister's agenda. After all, these individuals were elected individually by the region, and it's only fair to give them the opportunity to enact the vision they were elected to enact. So personally, I envision my role to be a supportive and advisory one. Having said that, if we do experience a regional issue under one ministry, as we're experiencing right now with recruitment and immigration, I'll be more likely to step in, suggest a series of steps to be taken (such as diversifying our recruitment strategies, holding regional events, etc, in the case of tackling the summer slump), and help the ministry get those steps implemented. Micromanagement of the Cabinet runs contrary to how our political system functions, and even in an appointed cabinet, it's important to give ministers the room to innovate.
(Author) Do you have any predictions on how Senator Somner would act? Some have said that he would be very controlling and micromanaging, can you comment on this? For that matter, can you comment on how you expect Bergonnia to act as well?
(Nydaymos) From what I've heard and read, I understand that Sen. Somner will be adopting a stricter, hands on approach to dealing with the Cabinet where as Sen. Bergonnia has said that he'll keep his participation to a minimum and only in the case of emergencies. I believe the approach I'm suggesting essentially creates a compromise out of those two points of view and strikes a happy medium.
(Author) That's true. I believe that'll be all, do you have any other further comments or thoughts you'd like to add on before we end the interview?
(Nydaymos) Just one more thing. My friends, as a region, we're coming to a critical point. The decisions you make in terms of who to vote for, not only for PM, but also for all the other elections, will be monumental. I ask you to vote with an open mind, and I ask to truly assess each campaign platform. My camp is running a truly spirited and innovative campaign that's focused on so many issues ranging from recruitment to the World Assembly to the regional military. You can view the platform right here. We would love to earn your support and vote!
(Author) We thank you for your time Chancellor, it's been an honor and a privilege to have this discussion with you!
(Nydaymos) Thank you so much for having me!
Once again, we cannot thank Chancellor Nydaymos enough for dedicating some of his time to the Western Atlantic Times. We wish him the best of luck in the race to Prime Minister, as it is a brutal and painful one.

An interview with Somner 6/4/2018 at 2:24 pm
Today, the Western Atlantic Times had the privilege and honor to interview Constructivist Prime Minister Candidate Somner. The interview was hit off with the Author asking:
(Author) So, to first kick off the Interview, how are you doing today?
(Somner) Doing great, energized for the election.
(Author) That's great, as are we. Many residents have noticed the debates going on in the Regional Message Board between you and the activist candidate Nydaymos, what is your personal take on Nydaymos and his running mate Traffia?
(Somner) Clichés and platitudes don't make a campaign. Action and determination do. The consistent attempts by the Activist ticket to demonize myself, and my campaign are misplaced, a strategy that isn't friendly nor inviting. We want to talk issues, positions, and plans - but they'd rather characterize campaigning as toxic and dirty. This doesn't represent Activists, nor the values of the New Western Atlantic. I hope however the dialogue between our campaigns improves and we are able to openly and civilly discuss the future for the region.
(Author) What would you say Nydaymos's biggest attributes to the Prime Minister is, and his biggest flaws? Also to follow up, what about your own biggest Attributes and Flaws to Prime Minister?
(Somner) Nydaymos has the best intentions, as all candidates do, when it comes to leading the nation. His service as Chancellor and his active involvement in the community would serve his office well. However, his effort to appeal emotionally rather than through policy isn't fitting for the Prime Minister. #Hatersgonnahate is not how one should deal with troubles, controversies, or challenges as Prime Minister. As for myself, I have seven years of NationStates experience, seven years of dedication and determination that I have brought to the NWA and plan to continue to use to better the region through detailed polices and tried-and-true experience. My flaw is that I have only been a citizen since January. I've missed much of the region's history, I don't have the name recognition and relationship with citizens that Nydaymos and Bergonnia do. I'm the unknown Constructivist candidate to many. But I plan to change that. Before the election, citizens will know my name, who I am, and what I stand for.
(Author) Wow, very strong statement. Would you be open to the possibility of a debate hosted by WAT between you and the other 2 candidates?
(Somner) I welcome it. Debate and discussion is vital to a democracy and to the election process. It would be a pleasure to share ideas and discuss policy differences with the Liberal Democrat and Activist candidate.
(Author) Alright, I believe that's everything. Do you have anything you'd like to say before we wrap things up?
(Somner) I respect the other two candidates tremendously. Nydaymos has the friendly drive and Bergonnia has the history. It is an honor to be seeking the office of Prime Minister beside them. I believe that my campaign, the Constructivist campaign, offers true progress however. New energy, fresh ideas, and the willingness to do whatever it takes to bring the NWA into a new era of growth and prosperity. Whatever the outcome of the election - the New Western Atlantic's upward trajectory can't be stopped. The people are smart, determined, respected and we are in their hands.
(Author) Once again a very strong statement. We thank you for your time and the interview with the Western Atlantic Times, and look forward to working with you in the future
(Somner) Thank you for this opportunity!
(Author) Absolutely, and have a nice day.

L.R. 78 The Lobbying Act 6/4/2018 at 1:35 pm
Today, in the Senate, Prime Minister Candidate and Senate Chancellor Nydaymos posted the vote for L.R. 78 The Lobbying Act. Upon
reading the bill, I thought it was satirical. I thought nothing this ridiculous could be serious, well, I was wrong. It's an interesting concept, and one the reasons I thought i was satirical because nationstates has no form of currency, and as entailed by the official Terms of Service that stamps used as a currency is strictly prohibited. Lobbying is the act of paying politicians to make certain decisions in legislation. So how does one pay a politician with no currency? It appears that it would be by getting something in return, makes sense. Only issue is that this is against NWA Law, quite extensively. L.R. 55 in the Law Registry says in its first line "Bribery by means of materialistic goods for a political candidate(s) to vote for a specific piece of Legislature/Legislation..." This would mean L.R. 78 contradicts the pre existing L.R. 55.
The bill mentions what lobbying is and than goes onto to talk about the formation of Lobbying firms, which is an interesting thought. It further mentions how in order to become a firm, it needs to be approved by the King, Prime Minister, or Majority of the Senate. That would almost make one believe that this bill would not only allow Lobbying Firms to exist, but to almost make them extensions of the government. Typically it would be a privately owned entity, but this bill makes it sound like it would be governmentally owned, or at least approved. At the time of this article, most votes on the bill have been Nay, and let's hope it stays this way. The purpose of the Senator position is to represent all nations in it's jurisdiction, not individual people or groups.
Senate Chancellor Nydaymos himself said this in his message declaring the start of the vote: "I hope you are all well and relaxed, my good Senators... My personal take: I agree with the author on the purpose of the bill. Defining and regulating lobbying is an excellent topic to legislate. Having said that, I'm not sure this bill, in its current form at least, does that well. Somethings that need to be worked on: the requirements for forming lobbying firms (article 4), lobbyist actions that can be considered corruption/illegal (article 5), and the regulation of lobbyist relationships/interactions with the Court (article 6). I think that for each of these, the current form is lacking. I'll be posting some more later today, but I'll leave you on that note for now. As always, please keep debate civil, respectful, and on topic." He later goes onto to vote Nay on the bill, conforming with his statement. When later asked if he would support a better bill and lobbying itself he said: "Definitely, it just that this bill was lacking in terms of the requirements of establishing a lobbying firm, in addition to the fact that it needed more work in terms of defining what lobbyist actions can be considered illegal, etc."
Senator and Constructivist Prime Minister Somner said: "It's not necessarily illegal at the moment - so if we had to have lobbying I'd rather it be regulated and monitored - but I do not generally support lobbying the regional government. The region operates better with citizens talking through issues and controversies with their Senators/parties democratically."
We thank both Chancellor Nydaymos and Somner for their statements to the Western Atlantic Times.
BNL Not being Impeached 7/28/17 at 7:51 pm By Republic of Amercas
BNL case of being impeach came to a close with 2 voting for an impeachment 3 voting for no impeachment and one being abstain. This is amazing news for some but awful news for most. Over 50% of the region voted for an impeachment and senate shut them up. While Sen. Ormantum (C) and Sen. Grand Rebel (RNP) where the only two senator that voted with the rest of the region. When the vote close Sen. BillNyleLand said this when the voting ended “AND the vote ends! With 2-3-1 yes-no-abstain, I believe the vote fails, and I am not impeached. Hooray for me, but more importantly, thank all of you for supporting me and allowing me to continue to serve this region as Senate Majority Leader.”. We wish that the senator do good for the region and not messed up like he did.

Closure of Westphalian Embassies
This Week our Founder United Dark Republic met with Westphalian Delegate Rahambia to discuss the current state of the two Region's relations. With Rahambia disguising as a puppet nation, called Aeyrloin, causing havoc with in the New Western Atlantic Politics and community. The United Dark Republic had worked with Rahambia in previous case to stop this kind of behavior, but it didn't work. After the meeting of Rahambia and The United Dark Republic they decided it would be best to close embassies. This choice will benefit the community, because having a foreign Delegate try to infer with Day to Day life is not Welcome in the New Western Atlantic. Ever since the crisis of that happen during the Merge Proposal relations have been steadily dying, and now, they have ended.
In a short interview with The United Dark Republic, he said "I believe it is unfortunate that it ended this way, however we as a government are obligated to represent the best interests of our constituents-- and that's what we did. I concur with the Westphalian Premier in that this is the best for both sides."
